Southampton have made an approach to appoint Will Still as manager and are confident of getting a deal done, according to journalist Miguel Delaney.
The Saints are in the market for a new manager after Ivan Juric was relieved of his duties when relegation to the Championship was confirmed. Southampton started the campaign with Russell Martin in charge, but he was let go after just a few months in the Premier League.
Now, a potential new manager is tasked with getting the Saints promoted at the first time of asking. Southampton came up through the play-offs before the start of this season, but it's been a disastrous campaign as they sit on 12 points at the bottom of the table.
Southampton Approach Will Still
Confident a deal gets done
Will Still
According to journalist Delaney, Southampton have made an approach to former Lens manager Still, and they are confident of getting a deal done. Still, described as 'incredible' by Kevin Nicholson, is an exciting, up-and-coming coach, and it was recently confirmed that he will be leaving Lens.
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano reported on Saturday night Still left Ligue 1 side Lens and will return to England due to personal reasons. This appears to open the door for the Saints to make a move, and it appears they've done just that.
If Still is looking to return to England, he's unlikely to be short of offers, especially when it comes to Championship clubs, so the Saints have clearly looked to move ahead in the race and try and secure his signature as soon as possible.
Still has left Lens, leaving them in 8th position in Ligue 1 at the end of the season. It will be interesting to see whether the young manager is willing to coach in the Championship, considering he's been managing in a top European league, but joining Southampton could be his route into becoming a manager in the Premier League one day.
