Delighted Yasir Al-Rumayyan to green light £150 million summer spending spree at Newcastle…

· 18 May 2025, 10:30

**Newcastle United are a whisker away from sealing a place in next season's Champions League with a win today against Arsenal likely to seal the deal.**

Suddenly, the aim for Newcastle isn't to just qualify for the Champions League but to finish second in the Premier League. A win in each of their final two games will see Eddie Howe's men finish runners-up in this strange old campaign.

It wasn't the best of starts to the season by Newcastle, but there was always a belief that when things clicked, we'd be fine. When they did click, we were more than just fine, we were unstoppable.

There have been hiccups along the way, sure, but we're now within touching distance of finishing second. Oh, and did we mention that we won the Carabao Cup too?

It feels like so long ago that we made a meaningful first-team signing (no offence, Will Osula)

A £150m spending spree could set Newcastle up nicely next season

----------------------------------------------------------------

Unsurprisingly, Newcastle's chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan is said to be delighted with this season's accomplishments, and [The Chronicle are reporting that the Magpies could be set to spend up to £150 million](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/newcastle-united-ready-make-150m-31657821) on new players this summer.

Nobody knows for sure what the figures are, but The Chronicle believes that with a couple of player sales that £150 million is a good estimate.

After being starved of first-team signings for the last three windows, this will be music to fans' ears ahead of what's expected to be a very big summer window.

Can we start thinking about Premier League titles?

--------------------------------------------------

The club has now tasted silverware again for the first time in 56 years, and it has made them hungry for more, and they are aware that the only realistic way to keep challenging for more is to upgrade the team.

Newcastle have, by anyone's definition, overachieved under Eddie Howe. His squad is still made up mostly of pre-takeover players, players who couldn't even get in the team under Steve Bruce, and yet here we are, fighting for a runners-up spot in a season in which we've added meaningful silverware to the trophy cabinet.

There's no telling what we can do with a few more big signings. It may be too soon to start thinking about a title challenge... or is it?
