Pep reacts during the FA Cup final defeat
Manchester City missed out on an extra £2million in prize money after losing the FA Cup final to Crystal Palace on Saturday.
The Blues were beaten 1-0 in an action-packed final as the Eagles celebrated a first major trophy. Palace pocketed an extra £2m for the victory with City claiming £1m for finishing as runners-up.
The total may pale into insignificance given the riches on offer to City across the Premier League, Champions League and Club World Cup but it does further swell the Etihad coffers.
And it means City's total prize pot from the FA Cup this season stands at just under £3million. Payments are made from the FA's prize fund upon completion of every stage, from the extra preliminary round onwards.
Prior to Saturday's final, City had collected £1.91million from five victories to reach the final. That total now stands at £2.91million.
The prize money is dwarfed by what City can claim elsewhere. Last season the Blues pocketed a total of £175.9m from the Premier League, of which £56.4m was prize money for ending the campaign as champions.
The winner of the Champions League final earns £21.5m from a total prize pot of £2.06bn. Clubs are given £15.7m just for qualifying.
And this summer's Club World Cup - which City will be playing in - could see the Blues rake in £97m in prize money from an overall fund of £775m.
