A Bayern Munich chief didn't hold back when questioned on his side's bid to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.
Attacking midfielder Wirtz is understood to have softened his stance on potentially joining Manchester City in recent months and the Premier League appeals to the star, who is one of the most sought-after talents in Europe.
But City are not the only club interested, with Bayern Munich also pursuing his signature and Wirtz's mother of the opinion that he should stay at Bayer Leverkusen for another season. And now, according to Kicker, Liverpool are also keen on signing the £126million-rated star.
According to German journalist Christian Falk, Wirtz had been set to reject a move to City to join Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich. The report states that Wirtz has agreed a move to the Bavarian giants, with Bayern prepared to offer €100million (£84.7m) to bring him to the Allianz Arena.
That, though, is well short of Leverkusen's valuation, and Bayern would surely have to cough up a larger fee amid competition from the two Premier League sides.
Now, Bayern executive Uli Hoeness has lashed out at questions about the star, despite another club official having previously revealed his side were pursuing a move.
A Bayern Munich chief gave a spiky response when asked about the future of Florian Wirtz
Uli Hoeness said the media 'has been writing nonsense for weeks about him going to Manchester City'
Pep Guardiola's side have been interested in making am move for the midfielder this summer
Arne Slot's Liverpool are also interested in signing Wirtz, who is valued at £126million
'These are things that are so typical of the state of our media, that they take such nonsense as a small trip so seriously,' Hoeness said. 'It's not about football anymore, it's just about every fart left and right.
'And then you have to ask yourselves whether that's still what the viewers want to hear, read, and see.
'What can I tell you now? You've been writing nonsense for weeks about him going to Manchester City, even though he was at Liverpool. We'll provide you with facts at some point, not more speculation.'
Mail Sport revealed last week that City are awaiting news on discussions between the 22-year-old and his parents, Hans and Karin, over the direction of his career.
Wirtz's parents were in England last week to speak to clubs about his son's future, with some reports suggesting Wirtz himself was present in Liverpool to speak to Arne Slot's side.
Wirtz has 33 goals and assists in 45 matches for Leverkusen this season and Real have been interested in the Germany international.
In February, Bayern Munich chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge announced they would target Wirtz this summer and it seems as though that is the direction of travel.
In an interview with AZ, Rummenigge said he makes 'no secret of the fact that it must clearly be our goal to sign Wirtz'.
He added: 'Everyone at FC Bayern agrees that he is exactly the player we want to sign. Not to weaken Leverkusen, but to strengthen us.'
