Real Madrid superstar Rodrygo has been linked with a potential Premier League move.
Alan Shearer believes Bruno Guimaraes could speak to Real Madrid superstar Rodrygo about a potential Newcastle United move.
Reports in recent weeks have suggested the 24-year-old might be on the move this summer. Frustrations at playing out of position while Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior take centre stage are reportedly a key factor.
Rodrygo has won two Champions League titles at the Bernabeu and would cost a club-record fee from Newcastle. With three years left on his Los Blancos contract, the forward is valued at around £85million.
It must be noted that there have been no signals from Toon sources that Rodrygo is a summer target. However, legendary goalscorer Shearer cheekily thinks his compatriot, Guimaraes, could sing Newcastle’s praises.
Alan Shearer on Rodrygo qualities and Newcastle United possibility
“I think Rodrygo would do very well in the Premier League - he’s an excellent player,” Shearer told Betfair. “I heard one or two things that maybe last year, one or two English clubs were chasing him. If that is the case, that he’s not happy at Real Madrid, then there won’t be a shortage of offers for him to come and play in the Premier League.
“That there would be two or three clubs that would try and get him. I would possibly say Newcastle could be one of those clubs, but that all depends on whether or not he could do it in the Premier League. Could he do it for Newcastle? Yeah, absolutely.
“That all depends on the finances and the deal that’s there. I wouldn’t put it past them to have a look and see whether that would work or not. I don’t know his personal situation, but I’m pretty sure that there would be two or three clubs chasing him. Bruno Guimaraes will know him very well and if it were to be the case, I’m sure that he would speak to him.”
Carlo Ancelotti clarifies Rodrygo absence
Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti played down speculation over Rodrygo after he was left out of the 4-3 defeat to Barcelona. According to the Italian, Rodrygo was injured - which has fuelled debate in the Spanish capital.
"Rodrygo has discomfort in his leg,” Ancelotti said. “He’s sad for that, but there’s really nothing more. He had (a) fever and didn’t train last week so he wasn’t fit. He felt uncomfortable and we wanted to look at it. Everyone loves Rodrygo, especially me."

Eddie Howe on ‘massive’ Newcastle United window
The Magpies are preparing for a huge summer transfer window. Eddie Howe said while briefing reporters: “The summer window as we know, and as I’ve made no attempt to hide, is a massive window for us.
“We are missing some big players and whenever you do that there is a gap. The lads who came in today did really well and filled that gap, which is what you are looking for. Being able to bring in players of the quality of Sven Botman and Anthony Gordon into the team - top-class players who both played well – but below that we slightly are stretched.”
