Man City have been given a boost in their pursuit of Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White amid concerns about PSR.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what his sources have told him about Forest’s financial situation.

Having been delivered a points deduction last season for financial indiscretions, concerns remain about their position and potential further sanctions.

As a result, there is a growing feeling that Forest will struggle to turn down significant offers for their key players if they do not qualify for the Champions League.

This comes after Football Insider revealed on 16 May that Forest may be forced to sell Gibbs-White and Murillo to comply with the financial rules.

Meanwhile, former City financial adviser Stefan Borson told Football Insider that City could spend £100million on Gibbs-White due to Forest’s lofty demands.

Man City eye Gibbs-White swoop after Nottingham Forest latest

Football Insider revealed Forest may be powerless to keep Gibbs-White if Man City come calling as the 25-year-old is “flattered” by the interest.

With Champions League qualification no longer in their control after dropping to seventh in the Premier League, concerns about PSR have made sales more likely.

O’Rourke explained that their attempts to stay within financial rules could see players sold, with Gibbs-White most likely given the links with a move to City.

“They’re not going to be where they want to be,” he told Football Insider.

“If they’re not in the Champions League, holding on to players is going to be difficult.

“Gibbs-White has been key for them. He’s been linked to Manchester City and even if they do get Champions League, he’s still being linked.

“FFP and PSR, as we know, play a big part in the daily talk at Nottingham Forest.

“If somebody comes in with a big bid and they’re not in the Champions League, they may find it hard to turn down, it’s going to be difficult.

“They’ve got an owner who’s very, very willing to compete at the top level but it’s taken them a few windows and points deductions to get where they want to be.

“They’ve got to toe the line with FFP and PSR rules and Gibbs-White may just fall foul of that.”

Tijjani Reijnders update emerges after record-breaking claim

City’s interest in Gibbs-White has come as they eye potential replacements for Kevin de Bruyne as he prepares to leave the club this summer.

Football Insider revealed on 16 May that Man City want AC Milan star Tijjani Reijnders and could be prepared to spend a record fee to secure his signature.

City’s move for Reijnders could be worth upwards of £70million, dwarfing Milan’s record sale which saw Kaka move to Real Madrid for £56million in 2009.

As a result, Football Insider revealed in March that Man City could sell players before signing Reijnders to clear space in the squad and raise funds.
