Giannis Antetokounmpo gets Knicks fans excited amid trade rumors

Giannis Antetokounmpo has already been linked to several teams as he faces an uncertain future with the Milwaukee Bucks, and his response to a question during a recent Q&A has New York Knicks fans buzzing.

Antetokounmpo answered questions from several fans on social media early Sunday morning. One fan asked Giannis which city is his favorite to play in when the Bucks are on the road.

Giannis said he likes playing in New York.

Madison Square Garden is one of the most iconic venues in sports, so there are plenty of star players who would have given the same response as Antetokounmpo. Still, Knicks fans took it as a sign that Giannis might be open to playing for their team.

Antetokounmpo is expected to meet with Milwaukee’s brass in the coming days to discuss the direction of the franchise. There has been no real indication that he will seek a trade, though he is said to be “open-minded” about playing elsewhere for the first time in his career.

If Giannis does ask for a trade, the Knicks will probably be among several teams with interest.

The Bucks are under no obligation to trade their nine-time All-Star. Giannis signed a supermax extension with Milwaukee in 2023. He is under contract through the 2026-27 season and has a $62.8 million player option for 2027-28.

Antetokounmpo had another outstanding regular season this year with 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game. He was even better in the playoffs with 33.0 points, 15.4 rebounds and 6.6 assists per game, but it was not enough for Milwaukee to win a series. The Bucks lost to the Indiana Pacers in five games in the opening round.

Damian Lillard suffered a torn Achilles in the playoffs after returning from a blood-clot issue, which has created even more questions for the Bucks as they enter the offseason.

One of Antetokounmpo’s teammates recently expressed confidence that Giannis will remain in Milwaukee, and Giannis chimed in with a four-word response.
