Liverpool have been linked with a shock move for soon-to-be free agent Kevin De Bruyne
Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has hinted at his future plans after Mohamed Salah joked earlier this week that there is room for him in the Liverpool squad.
The Belgium international is set to become a free agent this summer after spending 10 years with the Manchester club. During that time, he has established himself as one of the greatest midfielders in Premier League history, making the 33-year-old’s next move a topic of intense interest ahead of the transfer window.
Liverpool have recently been floated as a surprise potential destination for De Bruyne, although the ECHO understands the Reds are not currently looking at signing the midfielder. Nevertheless, that didn’t stop Reds talisman Salah from publicly encouraging De Bruyne to make the move this summer.

Salah joked in an interview with Sky Sports earlier this week: “I want to tell him congratulations on his career. He's done a phenomenal job at City, and he was great for the league. I really wish him the best… and we have a space for him!”
Links to a potential switch to Anfield didn’t seem entirely far-fetched, given that De Bruyne professed his love for the club as a youngster and is settled with his family in Cheshire, an area where several Liverpool players also reside. The midfielder has himself acknowledged that his family will be a major factor in determining his next move.
Speaking after City’s FA Cup final defeat to Crystal Palace on Saturday, De Bruyne also refused to deny that talks with other English clubs are already underway.
"I want to play good football, whatever the decision will be," he told reporters in the mixed zone after the game. "I know you're trying to guess where I'm going to go, but I will make my decision, and you guys will know when I know.
"I don't know [whether I'll stay in the Premier League], it depends on what comes. Like I said to my Belgium colleagues, I have a family. I have young kids I have to take care of, it's a decision that has to suit all of us, not just me.
"When I'm 20 years old and all by myself, I can make a decision, that is very easy. But now it's a bit more complex."
He was then asked whether any discussions had taken place with City's rivals in the Premier League, to which he added: "Maybe."
