David Moyes breaks silence on Abdoulaye Doucoure's contract situation after Everton beat…

Everton marked their final ever game at Goodison Park with a 2-0 win against Southampton.

It was an incredibly emotional afternoon for Everton, as they bid farewell to their home of the last 133 years.

Goodison Park is adored by the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson, Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola – it’s a special place for neutrals, too.

Today’s win also saw Ashley Young make his final home appearance for the Toffees, with his contract up at the end of the season.

Abdoulaye Doucoure appeared to wave goodbye as he was substituted in the second half, and now David Moyes has broken his silence on the Mali international’s contract situation.

David Moyes responds to question about Abdoulaye Doucoure’s Everton future

Abdoulaye Doucoure is out of contract at the end of the season, and at this stage, there’s been no word on whether he’ll be staying or going, despite others having their departures confirmed.

Doucoure wants to stay at Everton but believes his lofty wages shouldn’t be reduced, which has been the suggestion by some.

Asked whether it was a wave goodbye this afternoon, Moyes said: “I don’t know, I think he was probably just waving at them all, I’m not sure.

“But he deserves it, he’s done great for the club, he’s done great for the team, so there’s nothing one way or the other at the moment regarding his contract.”

Doucoure has an offer from Saudi Arabia

Doucoure has a number of Premier League clubs keeping tabs on his situation at Everton and has recently received a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia.

Al-Shabab have offered Doucoure a £58k-per-week contract, but it would appear the 32-year-old is holding out for a renewal with the Toffees.

Doucoure has been a key fixture in Moyes’ midfield, and the Scotsman has been particularly complimentary of him in the media, too.

So, it seems all roads lead towards an extension.
