Wrexham are looking forward to an ambitious summer as they continue their meteoric rise up the English football league system.

In 2021, Wrexham were taken over by actor duo Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, and the rest is history.

The first season, saw them finish second in the National League, ultimately losing in the play-off final.

But they did not have to wait long to get their redemption, winning the league in the following season under new manager Phil Parkinson.

Their first season back in the football league saw them finish second in League Two to gain automatic promotion.

And this season has seen similar, Wrexham immediately climbing League One to, once again, finish second and gain automatic promotion to the Championship.

Wrexham will hope to complete a similar feat next season, but will be aware that the Championship represents a different beast in terms of opposition.

They will need additions in their squad, and according to Wrexham Insider, they are looking at two former Manchester United players to aid them.

Former United players on the wish list

Charlie Savage and Tom Lawrence are subject to “genuine” interest from the Welsh club, and will be on the wish list.

Lawrence was born in Wrexham but emerged from the United academy, eventually leaving for Leicester City in 2014.

A string of clubs have followed, with the 31-year-old available on a free transfer this summer after leaving Rangers.

Charlie Savage, the son of Robbie, left United for Reading in 2023, and has become a key player for the League One club.

He would likely require a more sizable effort from Wrexham if they were to acquire his signature.

The money is there for Wrexham, though, who will hope to continue their dream journey.
