A visibly emotional Martinez was the last player to leave the pitch after the final whistle, with many quick to interpret his wave to the stands as a farewell.
Clubs from Saudi Arabia and Europe are thought to have been in touch with the 32-year-old’s representatives in recent weeks, while reports in Argentina over the weekend claimed the World Cup winner will definitely leave Villa if they don’t qualify for next season’s Champions League.
While boss Unai Emery declined to give any assurances over the futures of Martinez and Leon Bailey, who also shed tears on Friday night, Villa sources are adamant no agreement has been made to sell any player this summer.
Martinez, who joined from Arsenal for £20million five years ago, signed a new contract at Villa Park through to 2029 last August.
Villa are expected to be in the market for at least one new goalkeeper this summer, with back-up Robin Olsen poised to leave at the expiry of his contract.
Friday’s win kept Villa’s Champions League hopes very much alive and asked about the emotional response of Martinez and Bailey, who appeared to be crying before coming off the bench late on, Emery replied: “Now we are focused the match we are playing, of course, it is the last match here, and I don't know.
“We will see about the team, the players, but of course, they are responding on the field at the moment.
“They are responding and are focused on how we are preparing and playing each match.
“Of course, Leon Bailey is playing less because I know everybody is responding very well.
“They are performing well. And we are going to play Manchester for the last three points. And for us it will be very important again, to prepare, to be focused everybody.
“And of course, then we will see about everything, how we are going to try to get better for the next season, coming back.”
