Nottingham Forest claimed three important Premier League points against West Ham United with a 2-1 win at London Stadium, the Reds’ first at the venue.

Goals in either half from Morgan Gibbs-White and Nikola Milenković gave Forest a two-goal lead before Jarrod Bowen pulled one back for the Hammers with time running out.

The three points means Forest’s final league position will be determined when the Reds welcome Chelsea to The City Ground in the Premier League’s final round of fixtures next weekend.

Both sides started on the front foot at London Stadium with Matz Sels called into action in the first two minutes to keep out Tomáš Souček’s header.

Forest responded with a chance at the other end of the field moments later when Gibbs-White connected with Ola Aina’s long-throw, forcing Alphonse Areola into a point-blank stop.

The chances weren’t letting up and Chris Wood’s stringing drive from distance forced Areola into a save once more before the Reds finally opened the scoring.

Gibbs-White collected the ball from Areola’s loose pass before slotting the ball into the net on 11 minutes to give Forest the lead, with the Reds’ no. 10 dedicating the goal to teammate Taiwo Awoniyi.

With Nuno Espírito Santo’s men gaining complete control of the ball, Wood hit the post from an Anthony Elanga corner before Gibbs-White’s follow-up was blocked away from immediate danger.

The Reds controlled the play in the remaining minutes of the first half, taking the single goal lead into the break.

Half time: West Ham United 0-1 Forest

With Forest looking comfortable, the Reds added a second just after the hour mark.

Anthony Elanga’s in-swinging free-kick was flicked into the West Ham net by Milenković to send the away fans wild and all but secure the points for Forest.

The Reds looked comfortable on the ball, pressing for a third which proved elusive.

With four minutes remaining, Bowen pulled a goal back for the home side to, but the Reds remained strong thereafter.

Sels was called into action to deny Niclas Füllkrug in added time, parrying the forward’s header away from goal with the final whistle sounding minutes later.

Forest round off the Premier League season against Chelsea next weekend at The City Ground.
