In the past few days, there’s been signs that AC Milan could seriously consider selling Tijjani Reijnders to Manchester City in the summer transfer window.
There’s been a growing feeling the Rossoneri will move the Dutchman on, with some claims stating Manchester City will have to pay around €80m, but others believing less than €70m could do the trick.
Milan have previously lost players like Sandro Tonali, Gianluigi Donnarumma and Hakan Calhanoglu. Now, criticism has been aimed at them for considering Reijnders’ sale to Manchester City.
Calciomercato’s Andrea Distaso has written a column on this, noting that giving into the temptation of selling the Netherlands international ‘smacks of early surrender’.
When Sandro Tonali was sold to Newcastle United, the move took a while to go through. That may not be the case this time around and the fear is that Milan will fold much earlier than they did when the Italian joined the Magpies.
The belief is that a sale will send a ‘dangerous message’ about the ambitions of Milan’s current RedBird ownership, as Reijnders is arguably the club’s best player.
More than that, Sergio Conceicao’s side can still lose Mike Maignan and Theo Hernandez in the summer and letting Reijnders go will be another massive loss for them.
His exit will make fans angrier than they already are and it would suggest the Rossoneri’s owners are more interested in earning profits than competing at the highest level.
