Liverpool fans should be taking note of what's going on at Aston Villa as transfer dominoes start to fall - opinion

Liverpool are already moving quickly in the transfer window to tie up some important targets.

The Reds are poised to sign Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen as they put their Trent Alexander-Arnold succession plan into place.

Alongside arrivals such as Frimpong, though, there are likely to be more players following Alexander-Arnold out of the exit door, too.

Some of these are already obvious. It would be a surprise if Darwin Nunez stayed, for example, while the word is that Federico Chiesa will probably leave as well.

Another player who has been slated to depart Anfield this summer has been Caoimhin Kelleher, who is more than ready to be a Premier League number one.

Where Kelleher could move to has been up in the air for a little while. But after seeing Emi Martinez look emotional at Villa Park on Friday night, it seems fairly clear that Aston Villa will be looking for a new goalkeeper. And if Unai Emery is keen on Kelleher, then perhaps Liverpool could get a leg up on another potential deal with Villa.

Caoimhin Kelleher could join Aston Villa

Plenty of teams have been linked with a move for Kelleher this summer. Having ably deputised for Alisson Becker once again during the season, the Irishman could clearly step in for a host of top division sides.

Given Villa’s status as a probable Champions League team next year, they could fit the bill for Kelleher.

The 26-year-old has experience in Europe’s top competition and having proved himself across 67 appearances for Liverpool, could be the goalkeeper Villa are looking for.

And as per Fabrizio Romano, Emery and co could well be in the market for a new number one. As the journalist reported on Friday, Martinez was emotional as Friday is likely to have been his last home game for Villa.

“Emi Martinez will assess all the options also from Europe after Saudi Pro League clubs approaches, as he’s expected to leave Aston Villa,” said Romano.

Interest was confirmed in Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia, but with a good amount of Premier League experience under his belt, Kelleher could be an attractive option too.

Liverpool could do more business with Villa

Kelleher joining Aston Villa would be a great move for the Liverpool back-up keeper. He is good enough to be fighting in Europe and for the domestic cups.

And if Kelleher does end up at Villa Park, then perhaps the Reds could use that to curry favour to sign Morgan Rogers.

Liverpool are interested in Rogers, but RTK understands that the deal is currently seen as being difficult to do. Sending a player like Kelleher Villa’s way is unlikely to change that in itself, but it could allow Liverpool to establish a good relationship with the Midlands club.

The Reds are notoriously classy operators in the transfer market, and if they can forge that link with Villa, then maybe they can ensure they are at the front of the queue if and when Rogers becomes available.

Boubacar Kamara could be another of interest to Liverpool, and with Villa clearly in need of a goalkeeper, perhaps it’s worth letting them know that Kelleher is available at the right price.
