Everton said goodbye to Goodison Park in a sweet way, with a 2-0 victory against Southampton.

Iliman Ndiaye has written his name in Everton history books, having been the man to score both goals on the final day at Goodison.

One man who may not look back on the day with as much fondness is Gary Neville after being booed by supporters in the ground.

Everton fans show Neville what they think

The goodbye to Goodison Park was definitely made an occasion by those at Everton, who were keen to credit their history as well as looking forward to the future.

One of the ways this was done was by playing a series of videos from famous faces, who wanted to say goodbye to the historic stadium.

MORE TOFFEES STORIES

This included the likes of Carlo Ancelotti, Mikel Arteta and Sylvester Stallone, all of whom received plenty of cheers from supporters as their faces appeared on the screen.

Manchester United legend Neville, however, was not so popular and when his face appeared on the screen, supporters booed in unison.

Supporters seemingly felt as though his inclusion on the day was not needed.

It was an emotive day for supporters in Merseyside and, although it’s tough to leave, going out with all three points is a big positive.

Everton have ended the season well.

The key now is for The Friedkin Group to back up the move away with an improved situation for the Toffees both on and off the pitch, to support progression going forward.

David Moyes will certainly require financial support during the summer transfer window, allowing the opportunity to add to his side and aid a push further up the Premier League next season.

The new stadium should allow for an increase in revenue streams, producing money that can then be reinvested into the squad, crucial for progress and success, while working within the ranges of PSR rules.

Everton supporters will still have the opportunity to visit Goodison Park in the future, but saying goodbye in this way was always going to be emotional.

That blow will certainly be softened, though, if the Blues can go and create more history in their new stadium, showing clear signs of progression on their way.
