'Back to his old self': Wolves star told he's been 'terrific' since Vitor Pereira came to…

Vitor Pereira has done a tremendous job at Wolves – and Dave Edwards reckons one player has rediscovered his mojo under the Portuguese.

Wolves have managed to secure their Premier League safety with ease in the end, despite looking in real trouble at one point.

Wanderers struggled badly under Gary O’Neil and very few supporters were confident their club would survive.

But in came Vitor Pereira – and the scale of the impact he’s made has been remarkable.

It’s been brilliant to see how he’s improved so many players at Molineux.

And for Dave Edwards, there has been considerable improvement in goalkeeper Jose Sa compared to recent times.

The Wolves goalkeeping situation was one of the most talked about things in the first half of the season.

Wanderers signed Sam Johnstone from Crystal Palace for £10 million, and that suggested Sa’s future was in real doubt at Wolves.

But he managed to win back his place, and since Pereira came to Molineux he’s played almost every game.

And Sa has certainly looked a lot more assured between the sticks, with Dave Edwards feeling the Wolves manager should not look to replace him this summer.

He said on the Wolves Official Podcast: “I think Jose Sa has been terrific for Wolves. His first season in particular was excellent.

“I think the back end of last season and the start of this season, there was a lot of question marks. He wasn’t in great form.

“Since Vitor’s come in, I think he has gone back to his old self. I think he’s really cemented his place in the team because obviously with Johnstone coming in, there was a lot of ifs, buts, and maybes. But on the whole, he’s done really well.

“At times his distribution needs to be a little bit better. But I’m more than comfortable with Jose Sa being Wolves’ number one.”

Wolves should still look at new goalkeepers

Sa has definitely improved since Pereira came in and he hasn’t really made too many errors of late.

He deserves credit for the way he has responded to the arrival of Johnstone, which has proven to be a disastrous transfer by the club.

While Sa has got better under Pereira, Wolves should still be scouring the market for potential upgrades this summer.

Sa had interest from Saudi Arabia last year and it’s possible there could be interest again this time around.

Ultimately, Wolves want to push on now and to do that, a top goalkeeper is essential.

Some will feel that Sa still has mistakes in him and that Wolves’ Premier League rivals have ‘keepers who are more dependable.
