Jamie Vardy having a farewell party as man of the moment marks magic day with special goal

It was the day that every Leicester City fan dreaded. The day when they would have to say farewell to club legend and title-winning icon Jamie Vardy.

At 38, the old warhorse had decided to move on, but he had one final assignment for the club he has proudly served for 13 largely glorious years - a game against Ipswich Town in front of his adoring supporters at the King Power Stadium, an appropriate setting given the deeds and actions it has witnessed during the Vardy years.

And as far as fairy tale endings go, they do not get much better. A 500th and final appearance for Vardy as a Leicester player, a 200th and final goal for the man of the moment, and a 2-0 victory on the final home game of the season to help ease the pain of a second relegation in three seasons.

It was emotional, it was inspiring... but most important of all, it was a wonderful celebration of a brilliant servant, a true icon of the club and game who has won titles and cups, but also the hearts of supporters everywhere.

And we will leave the final word to the man himself. Addressing Leicester fans from the pitch after game, he told them: "I've enjoyed every minute of this. I look forward to keeping an eye on the club I love. They are in my heart.

"And from the bottom of my heart, thank you for taking myself and my family in as your own. I hope I've repaid you."

Jamie Vardy, we salute you!
