How did the players fare in Newcastle United's 1-0 defeat at Arsenal?

ARSENAL (4-3-3):

RAYA 8; White 6, Saliba 6 (Calafiori 46, 6), Kiwior 7, Lewis-Skelly 6; Odegaard 6 (Jorginho 90+3), Partey 6, Rice 7; Saka 6 (Havertz 75), Trossard 6 (Tierney 88), Martinelli 6.

Subs (not used): Neto (gk), Zinchenko, Henry-Francis, Sterling, Nwaneri.

NEWCASTLE (3-4-3):

6 Pope: Didn’t have a chance with Rice’s finish and made a good first-half save from Partey’s close-range header

7 Schar: Displayed his usual mix of commitment and composure – kept Trossard quiet for most of the game

6 Botman: Shrugged off concerns over his knee to keep his place, and did well against the Arsenal attack for an hour or so

7 Burn: Dominated in the air defensively, and came close to scoring with a first-half header that was saved

6 Murphy: Continued in his right wing-back role and delivered some useful balls into the box in the first half

6 Tonali: Displayed some nice touches in both defence and attack, although he was forced to sit very deep in the second half

6 Guimaraes: Kept trying to drive Newcastle forward, but should have done better with an early chance that was fired straight at Raya

8 LIVRAMENTO: Offered a constant threat for the opening hour or so – has taken to his left wing-back role superbly

6 Barnes: Made some decent forward breaks and almost scored with a deflected shot Raya clawed around the post

5 Wilson: Put himself about in place of the injured Isak, but lacked the yard of pace that might have troubled the Arsenal defence

6 Gordon: Linked up effectively with Livramento in the first half, but lost the ball in the build-up to Arsenal’s winner

Subs:

6 Krafth (for Botman, 63): Showed plenty of fight after coming on at right-back late on

5 Osula (for Wilson, 63): Tried to carry the fight to the Arsenal defence – needs a decent run of games next season

5 Miley (for Murphy, 63): Wasn’t able to ask any serious questions of the Arsenal midfield

Willock (for Barnes, 76)

(not used): Dubravka (gk), Ruddy (gk), Lascelles, Longstaff, Neave.

Man Of The Match: DAVID RAYA – The Arsenal goalkeeper formed a one-man line of defence in the first half.
