OKLAHOMA CITY — Nuggets forward Aaron Gordon warmed up Sunday before officially deciding his status for Game 7 of the team’s playoff series against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Gordon, 29, suffered a left hamstring strain late in Game 6 of the second-round series on Thursday.
“He’s trying to play,” interim coach David Adelman said. “Obviously he is injured. But he’s gonna go through the process, see if he can give us something. If he can’t go or if he goes and he can’t continue, we have plenty of guys who can step up, That’s what these things are about. … If Aaron can go, he’ll go. That’s who he is. There’s a real toughness there.”
Gordon has averaged 14.5 points and 9.2 points per game through the first six games, shooting 45% from 3-point range with a game-winner.
He participated in the team’s walk-through for the winner-take-all game on Saturday in Denver, hoping to play through the injury. But the severity of his strain has made it difficult to envision him being able to contribute significantly, multiple team sources told The Denver Post. The full recovery process is expected to take multiple weeks.
The decision to play or not is made collectively between Gordon and the team’s medical staff, Adelman said.
