Newcastle United have set their sights on bringing Al-Ahli midfielder Gabri Veiga back to Europe this summer, according to Santi Aouna of Foot Mercato.
Veiga has been in the Saudi Pro League since the summer of 2023, and his move took many by surprise given his age. The Spanish playmaker has impressed this season with seven goals and five assists in 30 league games.
The 22-year-old was expected to break into Spain's national team during his spell in Saudi Arabia, but that hasn't happened. His contract will have a year left to run this summer, and a return to European football could be on the cards.

Newcastle are showing interest in Veiga and have been in contact with the Spaniard's agent regarding a potential move. The Magpies could face competition from Atletico Madrid, who are thought to have made inquiries. His former club, Celta Vigo, are also keen, but the finances involved in a deal could be too difficult for the La Liga club.
All three clubs are informed of the conditions for Veiga, who won the AFC Champions League with Al-Ahli this season. Their ownership could aid Newcastle's potential pursuit, and the Magpies have conducted recent business with the Saudi club, selling Allan Saint-Maximin to Al-Malaki two summers ago.

Eddie Howe could be looking to add more creativity to his midfield and strength in depth ahead of a return to Champions League football next season. There has been recent talk about Sandro Tonali's future at St James' Park, with reports suggesting the Italian has asked to leave.
Veiga, hailed as a "footballing gem," could be an ideal replacement. He has displayed similar ball-playing attributes and an eye for goal. Given that Miguel Almiron and others have left in recent windows, he could arrive at the club irrespective of Tonali's situation, although the Tyneside outfit may have to meet his £200,000 per week wages.
