Report: Everton now eyeing £12m deal to sign 'incredible' Premier League star for Moyes

Everton are reportedly poised to complete a deal for Newcastle midfielder Sean Longstaff, who will enter the final 12 months of his contract this summer, according to Peter O'Rourke.

The Toffees are expected to be busy reinforcing their squad this summer ahead of their switch to the Bramley-Moore Dock stadium next season. David Moyes and his entourage will be handed additional investment from new owners The Friedkin Group to fund new signings as well.

One of the club's priorities will be bolstering the midfield amid potential exits for key first-team players including Abdoulaye Doucoure, who has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia.

Everton Eyeing Summer Move for Longstaff

They could sign the 27-year-old at an affordable price

As per O'Rourke, speaking to Football Insider, Newcastle are eager to cut down on their squad numbers by selling fringe players and Longstaff could be on the transfer list as a result. Everton have held a long-term interest and could move to sign the player for a cut-price fee.

"They could afford a deal for him, no doubt about that – I don’t think it would cost too much to get [Longstaff] out of Newcastle.

"He’s going into the final year of his contract at St James’ Park so I don’t think Newcastle will be able to command a huge fee for him, you’re probably looking around £10–12million.

"He’s been a long-term target for Everton in previous transfer windows – if he’s looking at his long-term prospects, he’s probably not going to get regular first team football at Newcastle next season.

"He’s only started eight Premier League games this season for Newcastle, so the player himself might feel this is the right time to move on."

Longstaff, dubbed "incredible", has been a mainstay in the Newcastle squad since 2006 when he joined the Magpies' youth set-up. He has made over 200 appearances throughout his tenure at the club, but his importance to the first-team has waned in recent seasons.

Nonetheless, Everton would benefit from the Englishman's extensive top-flight experience, as they look to develop under new boss Moyes.
