Anthony Gordon endured a frustrating 90 minutes against Arsenal.
The 24-year-old was named in the Magpies’ starting XI for the second game in a row on Sunday, but could not stop Newcastle losing to Arsenal.
In fact, Anthony Gordon actually played a key role in the only goal of the game. The Newcastle United number 10 cheaply gave away possession in his own half, with Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard combining before Declan Rice found the back of the net in the 55th minute.
It was sloppy from Gordon, who thought he was going to get the chance to atone for his error.
Anthony Gordon was not happy with Harvey Barnes
As Newcastle United went in search of an equaliser, Harvey Barnes passed up a great opportunity in the 75th minute.
Bruno Guimaraes and Will Osula exchanged passes, before Barnes was picked out in space in the penalty area. Unfortunately, the £39million winger’s shot sailed over the bar.
To Barnes’ left was Gordon, who could not hide his frustration that his teammate had taken a shot rather than pass to him.

The former Everton attacker was visibly annoyed at Barnes’ decision, with the Magpies’ number 11 failing to hit the target.
It was arguably Newcastle’s best chance in the second half, as Eddie Howe’s side fell to a 1-0 defeat.

Anthony Gordon’s challenging season for Newcastle United
During the 2023/24 campaign, Gordon was arguably Newcastle’s best player.
He was outstanding on the left of attack, scoring 12 goals and providing 16 assists.
It was the best season of his career, and Gordon hoped to build on that success.
However, the 2024/25 season has been much tougher. Gordon has been less productive in the final third, scoring nine goals and providing seven assists.
While he has still been productive in attack, the England international has failed to live up to his extremely high standards.
