It’s been a hard season for Nottingham Forest star Taiwo Awoniyi and this past week has probably been the toughest of the lot.
Awoniyi collided with the post last weekend against Leicester and after playing the final eight minutes of the game, he was rushed to the hospital after things didn’t improve 24 hours later.
The Nigerian required urgent surgery to fix a ruptured intestine and has spent the past week in hospital receiving expert treatment to try and rectify the problem.
Awoniyi won’t play again this season and that leaves Forest short in attack, with Chris Wood the only other striker currently in the squad.
After a tough week emotionally and physically for everyone associated with Forest and Awoniyi, the striker has now reacted for the first time since the incident.

Taiwo Awoniyi breaks silence after horror injury
It’s great that Awoniyi is back in good spirits and hopefully, he can begin his recovery ahead of next season when he’s expected to return to action.
Awoniyi has only scored twice in all competitions during the 2024/25 campaign, with just one of those goals coming in the Premier League.
Ahead of a 2-1 win for Forest over West Ham United, Awoniyi finally took to social media to update his supporters on his well-being after last weekend’s injury.

He posted on Instagram: “This season has been one of the most difficult of my career but through it all I have felt the love. With the grace of God, I am grateful to still be here, to still be fighting, to still be smiling and to still be in good spirits.
“To my teammates, coaches, staff and the entire Forest family, thank you for your well wishes. Seeing you all on your visit to the hospital lifted my spirits more than words can say.
“Wishing the boys the very best in these last two games, keep believing and keep pushing. I’m with you all the way and I can’t wait to be back out there with the boys doing what I love.
“To my family, friends and football fans, thank you for the support, and to everyone back home in Nigeria who has checked in on me and prayed for me and left kind words, thank you. I feel them. And I carry them with me every day as I recover.”
Ademola Lookman sends messages to Taiwo Awoniyi
Lookman has been linked with a move to Forest in the summer transfer window, with his days playing for Atalanta now numbered following a turbulent season with Gian Piero Gasperini.
The Nigerian international knows Awoniyi having shared a place in the Nigeria squad with him previously and after his emotional update, the Forest target replied with a classy message.
He posted: “Speedy recovery bro.”
Lookman would be a tremendous signing for Forest, given that he’s scored 20 goals and claimed seven assists during the current campaign, whilst he also boasts European experience.
Landing him won’t come easily and perhaps Awoniyi can put a good word in for Forest with the talented player who can play anywhere across a front three.
