Mock Trade Swaps 2 Kings' Stars for Pelicans' $261 Million Duo in Bold Offseason Shakeup

The Sacramento Kings have options ahead of the actual start of the NBA's offseason.

After a 40-42 season, the Kings qualified for the NBA Play-In Tournament but fell to the No. 10-seeded Dallas Mavericks.

The Kings shocked many when they traded De'Aaron Fox to the San Antonio Spurs midseason. In return, as part of a three-team trade, the Kings landed Zach LaVine from the Chicago Bulls.

Mock trade sends Kings' stars for key Pelicans duo

Many fans of the Bulls could likely tell Kings fans what the highs and lows of a team led primarily by DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine will look like if they do opt to pair them for a full season.

However, the Kings have the players to truly make it a spicy offseason.

According to Spencer See of ClutchPoints.com, this trade proposal by the Kings to the New Orleans Pelicans would send shockwaves throughout the league.

He has the Kings sending Domantas Sabonis and DeMar DeRozan to the Pelicans in exchange for Zion Williamson, CJ McCollum, Jordan Hawkins, and a 2026 first-round draft pick.

"The Pelicans already have solid young pieces in Yves Missi, Herb Jones, Dejounte Murray, and Trey Murphy III," wrote See. "As a result, surrounding them with proven veterans would be the missing ingredient.

"With Williamson finishing the 2024-25 season strong, there's a chance that they can lure the Kings to trade for him by giving up All-Star caliber players in Domantas Sabonis and DeMar DeRozan. Both of whom announced their intentions to seek clarity from the front office regarding their respective futures with the Kings."

This would be a wild shake-up for both teams.

While the move could prove to backfire if Williamson's struggles to stay healthy continue, his potential, packaged with the other assets in the trade, could be enough for the Kings to take the move seriously.

After the Kings traded away Fox, Sabonis became the face of the franchise. While fans might not be thrilled to send away the league's leading rebounder, the upside of a player like Williamson actually staying healthy could prove to be a mutually beneficial move.
