Former Manchester United winger Mason Greenwood has thanked Marseille for treating him like family after joining the club last summer.

The 23-year-old left United last summer after being suspended by the club in January 2022 amid allegations of attempted rape, assault and controlling and coercive behaviour. All charges were later dropped and the winger would join Getafe on loan on deadline day in the summer of 2023.

Upon his return to Manchester, Greenwood would hold meetings with the club's decision-makers where it was decided that a permanent transfer would be in the best interest to everyone involved. His permanent move to Marseille in 2024 saw United include a significant sell-on clause should the forward leave for a fee in the future.

Greenwood has excelled in his first campaign in France, bagging 22 goals and six assists as Marseille finished second in Ligue 1 and qualified for next season's Champions League. The Bradford-born forward would become Ligue 1's joint top goalscorer alongside Ousmane Dembele on the final day after bagging a brace in the 4-2 victory over Rennes.

With the season now at a close for Greenwood, the forward took the time to reflect on what he has achieved in his life after Old Trafford. "From day one, this club welcomed me like family," he explained.

"Ending the season in second and qualifying for the Champions League is something we can all be proud of. Being joint-top scorer in Ligue 1 is a proud moment for me personally, but the real highlight was playing in front of our incredible fans week in, week out.

"Your support means the world." At the time of writing, Diogo Dalot was among the current United squad to like Greenwood's post.

In recent weeks, Greenwood has been linked with a move back to the Premier League. Reports have suggested that two Premier League teams are interested in signing the winger, but in his post-match interviews on Saturday, Greenwood insisted that he was happy to remain at Marseille next season.
