Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish is hoping to tie Oliver Glasner down to a new contract at Selhurst Park.

Glasner became the first manager in the club’s history to clinch silverware when the Eagles won the FA Cup at the third time of asking with a 1-0 victory over Manchester City on Saturday.

The Austrian is also on track to achieve the club’s record points tally in the Premier League in his first full season in charge, requiring only one point from Palace’s final two league matches.

After a stellar season at Selhurst Park, the 50-year-old, who won the Europa League at Eintract Frankfurt in 2022, will take charge of Palace in that very competition next season as the club embark on their first European tour.

Glasner has one year remaining on his Palace deal and while the Palace hierarchy would like to tie him down to a longer contract, Parish admits the club must continue showing their FA Cup winning coach a path to further development.

“Oliver will be here next year. Everyone knows the length of his contract. Beyond that, we will have to talk. We want to try and extend his contract, but it has to be right for everybody.

“He will stay here for some period of time. I am trying to live in the moment. What happens in the future – the summer transfer window, players – is for tomorrow.

“He’ll be next year and then we will take it from there. We want him to stay, things happen in football, clubs evolve and move on.

“I’d love him to stay, but the club’s got to develop behind him, show the ambition to do the things we want to do to move forward and for people to feel a part of something.

“If that all aligns, then I think maybe he will.

“We’ve been talking about it. For Oliver, it’s not about the things people think about. He wants to be a part of something that is going in a direction and that’s the same for all of us.

“That’s what we will talk about. Before finals and after finals is not the time for that, but somewhere down the track we will have a conversation and see what we all feel.”
