Newcastle United and Eddie Howe have ttheir full focus on a return to the Champions League but will already have a plan in place for this upcoming summer transfer window.
The Magpies are already guaranteed a return to European football via the Conference League following their Carabao Cup triumph, but the Champions League remains the key to unlocking the Toon's full transfer spending power.
It's set to a busy window in terms of both incomings and outgoings as the Toon hierarchy look to bolster Howe's ranks for a European adventure.
With that in mind, ChronicleLive has taken a look at the latest Newcastle United transfer news and rumours ahead of the summer transfer window.
Newcastle 'still have chance' to sign Brazilian winger
Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest still have the chance to sign Marseille winger Luis Henrique, despite a reported interest from Inter Milan, according to the latest reports.
Le10 Sport claimed that both Premier League clubs were interested in a move for the 23-year-old winger earlier this month, with Bayern Munich and Inter also linked with a move.
The French club are said to be holding out for a bid in the region of €30-35million (£25.3m-£29.4million) for the Brazilian, though Inter aren't willing to pay more than €22million.
Now, TuttoSport claim Newcastle and Forest have 'knocked on the door' to sign Henrique, though Inter are reportedly the player's preferred destination having agreed a €2.2m per season deal. A sticking point appears to be the fee Inter are willing to agree, with the Serie A side unwilling to pay more than €22million(£18.5m).
ChronicleLive says: "It's no surprise to see another player linked with a move to St. James' Park from Ligue 1 given Paul Mitchell's history in France. The 23-year-old has seven goals and seven assists in 33 appearances in the French top flight. Newcastle want to strengthen their options on the right-hand side of their attack, so one to watch."
Newcastle United set Sean Longstaff asking price
Football Insider claims Newcastle will accept offers of £12million for Sean Longstaff this summer amid ongoing uncertainty about the midfielder's future at his boyhood club. Leeds United and Everton have both been linked with a move for the midfielder, who has made just 12 Premier League appearances for Eddie Howe's side this season.
“They could afford a deal for him, no doubt about that – I don’t think it would cost too much to get [Longstaff] out of Newcastle”, O'Rourke told Football Insider. "He’s going into the final year of his contract at St James’ Park so I don’t think Newcastle will be able to command a huge fee for him, you’re probably looking around £10–12million.
“He’s been a long-term target for Everton in previous transfer windows – if he’s looking at his long-term prospects, he’s probably not going to get regular first-team football at Newcastle next season. He’s only started eight Premier League games this season for Newcastle, so the player himself might feel this is the right time to move on.
“With the player out of contract in 2026, this could be [Newcastle’s] last chance to cash in on him, so they might see a sale as good business sense as it’ll help with PSR and FFP for them as well.
“I think it’s a deal that makes a lot of sense for both clubs. Everton would be getting a good player in Sean Longstaff, a player keen to prove a point – while Newcastle could get a decent fee for a player who is entering the final year of his contract.”
ChronicleLive says: "It seems likely that Sean Longstaff will move on from Newcastle United this summer, though the Magpies are in a much better position when it comes to PSR and don't need to necessarily think about the benefits of selling an academy talent for pure profit. A transfer decision will come down to the player's decision rather than any need to move him on for financial reasons."
