Newcastle injury update: Isak, Trippier and Joelinton latest return dates

Newcastle United have major injury concerns heading into the final game of the Premier League season.

Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United host Everton in their Premier League finale later this week, needing a win to secure Champions League qualification.

It has been a brilliant season for the club but Newcastle lost 1-0 to Arsenal on Sunday, which means all the pressure is on the final day of the campaign when the Toffees come to St James’ Park.

Newcastle will be strong favourites to win that of course, but it will be a nervy affair on Tyneside.

The Newcastle United manager will no doubt need his key players available, so here’s a look at the latest Newcastle United injury news, with Alexander Isak, Kieran Trippier and Joelinton all major concerns.

Alexander Isak

Isak missed Newcastle’s loss to Arsenal with a thigh injury and it remains to be seen if he will play again this season.

The Sweden star has been exceptional in front of goal all season but may be forced to sit out of the Everton game.

That would be a bitter blow to Howe. The options behind Isak do not look all that convincing, with due respect to William Osula and Callum Wilson.

Speaking after the Arsenal game, Howe said: “There’s obviously an injury there. A strange one because he felt it after training, felt it stiffen up. He had a scan this morning to check the damage & there was something there, so we pulled him out of the game”

Trippier has returned to form for Newcastle and once again looks the force of old after struggling last season.

Still, the veteran defender has missed the last two games with what Howe described last week as a “very minor” calf issue.

Thankfully, that does not sound too serious so the hope will be that Trippier can return for a huge showdown with Everton later this week.

Potential return date: Sunday 25 May, 2025

Eddie Howe on Kieran Trippier and Joe Willock:

"Kieran I don't think will be fit for this weekend but again it's not a big injury, a very minor calf problem.

Joe – we'll leave the door open for him, I think he's got a slight chance." pic.twitter.com/YUNyG13Jdp

Joelinton

Joelinton is expected to miss the Everton game with a knee injury, though Howe did provide a slightly more promising update when speaking before the Arsenal game.

Howe confirmed the Brazilian was fighting to get fit in time for the final game of the season but did stress that the idea of seeing him play again before next time around remained remote.

“He’s working away behind the scenes,” he said.

“Typical Joe he’s absolutely foot to the floor trying to get fit because he wants to be involved. The biggest possibility is that we don’t see him again this season and we’ll get him ready for next year.”

Potential return date: Summer 2025

Lewis Hall

Hall established himself as one of Newcastle’s most important players this season before a cruel fitness blow.

Hall suffered a season-ending ankle injury in March and has since undergone surgery. Jason Tindall recently claimed Hall was doing “great” in his recovery but it seems very likely he won’t feature against Everton.

Instead, his focus will likely be on getting to full fitness before pre-season.

Potential return date: Summer 2025
