Report: PL giants now 'expected' to join transfer race for £45m Wolves star this summer

Wolves are potentially going to have a squad that looks quite different for 2025/26.

After securing their safety, Wolves are now looking ahead to next term, with fans expecting big things.

Vitor Pereira has done a superb job at Molineux, and the feeling from fans is that, if backed well, the club could see some exciting times again.

Clubs like Aston Villa, Newcastle United, Crystal Palace and Brentford will all play European football next season and that is what Wolves should be aiming for.

But it will be difficult because Matheus Cunha will leave Wolves this summer and a few others could follow.

And one player who might be on his way out as well as the Brazilian is Rayan Ait-Nouri.

Ait-Nouri has been one of Wolves’ best players this season.

He had a bit of a poor start, and was exposed in a few games positionally. But Ait-Nouri, like a lot of players, has been much improved since Pereira came in.

MORE WOLVES STORIES

Currently no Premier League defender has made more than his 11 goal contributions, and his efforts have alerted Manchester City.

According to the Telegraph, City are now ‘expected’ to be in the transfer hunt for Ait-Nouri this summer.

Ait-Nouri – who Wolves want to hand a new contract to – is a player who’s been on their radar for quite some time now. But this summer they could finally act on their interest.

City have had a very disappointing campaign and are looking to rebuild – and Ait-Nouri certainly has the technical ability to not look out of place at the Etihad Stadium.

Man City have already poached Matheus Nunes

Potentially we could have a case of City raiding Wolves for the second time in two years.

In the summer of 2023, City signed Matheus Nunes, who had gone on strike at Molineux to force through a move.

He remains Wolves’ record sale, just ahead of Pedro Neto. But Cunha leaving will eclipse that.

But City may fancy their chances of signing Ait-Nouri – who is currently valued at around £40-45 million – and one wonders if they might see if Nunes can play agent.

Ait-Nouri recently changed representation and some have speculated this means he will seek to facilitate his exit from the club.

If he does do that, then fans will certainly hope he goes the right way about it, unlike Nunes.
