John Arne Riise believes the Liverpool boss will be targeting progress in the Champions League next season, and tips the Reds to emulate the success of the famous 2005 side
Arne Slot has enjoyed a dream first Liverpool season
Liverpool legend John Arne Riise believes Arne Slot is destined for European glory.
Slot guided Liverpool to the Premier League trophy in his first full season but went out in the Champions League to Paris Saint Germain. But Riise, now a Liverpool hero after his Istanbul heroics, believes Slot can write a new chapter of European success for the Reds.
Riise said: “I can think Arne Slot can do it, without doubt. They’ve been brilliant in the Premier League, the best team and I don’t think they were at their best in the Champions League but PSG were really good.
“I see this team competing for Champions League titles, I really do. But other big teams are coming back as well. PSG are strong, Barcelona and obviously Inter are in the final while no-one really expected them to do so well.

“I think this season winning the Premier League was actually more important for Liverpool but I think you can see Slot wants to be competitive in every competition he goes into.”
Riise also loves his part in that Champions League final and the way that Liverpool fans still view him to this day.
He added: “Every time I go back to Anfield, I get an incredible welcome. Every day someone comes up to me. Every minute on social media, someone asks about Liverpool. So many memories.
Riise believes Slot can earn Champions League glory for Liverpool
“I love it, to be honest. I love socialising with the fans because without Liverpool I wouldn’t have had the career I had. No way. That’s down to the Liverpool fans so I love to go back there.
“It just shows you what you did for the club is unbelievable, I love going back there because it means what you did is so special.”
