The latest transfer talking points from the Premier League - including updates from Man City and Liverpool
Premier League champions Liverpool are acting quickly to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold and ensure the club continues to have a bright future on the right-hand side of their defence.
Conor Bradley has already signed a new long-term contract to extend his six-year association with the club while it now appears that further competition could be on the way.
“So the more of them we can win, the better it will be for me and the whole team. Hopefully if we can keep doing that, it’ll be a good next few years at the club.”
Liverpool look in good shape to win more trophies after securing the futures of Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah but Bradley’s position as first choice starter is far from certain as the Reds edge closer to a statement signing.
Liverpool edge closer to Jeremie Frimpong move
Liverpool are expected to confirm the signing of Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen in the near future, according to talkSPORT. The outlet understands the Netherlands international has already agreed a five-year-deal with the club which runs through to the summer of 2030.
The Bayer Leverkusen defender is expected to head to Anfield for a medical before being unveiled as a Liverpool player in a club announcement.
Frimpong joined Bayer Leverkusen from Celtic in 2021 and has made a total of 190 appearances for the club, scoring 30 goals, producing 40 assists and forming part of the team which won the Bundesliga title in 2024 while finishing an entire campaign unbeaten. He’s also won the German Cup and reached a Europa League final whilst becoming a regular starter for his country.
The 3AM verdict: For a reported figure of just £29.5m, Frimpong has the potential to be one of the best transfers of the summer window and an asset for Liverpool heading into the new season. He’s played alongside Virgil van Dijk at international level and is someone that is more than capable of filling the void left by Trent in terms of creativity while providing a goal threat.
It will be interesting to see how he fits into Arne Slot’s system and whether he plays as an attacking-minded right back or in a wing-back role as he’s familiar with from Leverkusen. Either way it’s set to be an ambitious signing and a real statement of intent heading into the 2025/26 campaign.
Man City prepare bold £50m offer for AC Milan ace
Manchester City fell to a second consecutive FA Cup final defeat, marking the first trophyless season for the club in eight years and only the second of Pep Guardiola’s managerial career.
It’s led to questions over whether this great City team has come to the end of it’s long-period of dominance over English football or whether it’s just a bump in the road for the serial-winning Etihad club.
Guardiola will be determined to knock Liverpool off their perch next season and is expected to spend big again after a busy transfer window on assembling his new star-studded squad. TEAMtalk claims Tijjani Reijnders of AC Milan is one of Pep Guardiola’s top targets to improve the midfield and claims a bid of £50m has already been submitted to the Italian side.
The outlet expects the San Siro side to reject the offer and claims they are aiming for upwards of £70m for the player.
The 3AM verdict: While not necessarily being a direct replacement for Kevin de Bruyne, Tijjani Reijnders has the potential to be a player that can boost Manchester City’s chances of success next season.
The 26-year-old is a great box to box midfielder with the versatility to play in either a deep-lying role or a more advanced position behind the striker. He’s scored 15 goals this season and provided five assists this term and has been a pivotal player at the San Siro. His assets make him an ideal combination of a prime Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva, meaning he should translate well to a Pep Guardiola system if a deal was to be agreed.
