Aston Villa midfielder Youri Tielemans still appears to be recovering from his injury, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert claims that as he’s not yet back in training, it will almost certainly impact the minutes he can play against Manchester United.

Villa take on United in a must-win game at Old Trafford on 25 May as Champions League football is up for grabs.

Tielemans unlikely to start against United

It’s understood that the Belgium international will not be ready to play the full 90 minutes against Ruben Amorim’s side on the final day of the season.

The 28-year-old has not featured since the 1-0 win against Fulham on 3 May – a game in which he scored the winning goal.

His starting against United is also highly unlikely given his absence from training over the past couple of weeks.

Speaking about this situation, Dr Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, told Villa News: “It is mild according to Emery and what’s coming out from the club.

“This one sounds like it is week to week, but I wouldn’t fully rule him out playing a full 90 in the last match, although it is highly unlikely now as he’s not yet back in training.

“*There’s a high possibility he’s not fit enough to start the last game.*“

Aston Villa will miss Tielemans’ industry in midfield

Tielemans’ likely absence against Manchester United is a significant blow for Unai Emery.

The 28-year-old Belgian midfielder, pivotal in Villa’s midfield with his vision, passing and work rate, has been a cornerstone since joining from Leicester in 2023.

His ability to control tempo, break lines with precise passes, and contribute defensively makes him integral to Emery’s high-pressing, possession-based system.

Without Tielemans, due to his injury explained by Dr Brar, Villa lose midfield balance, potentially weakening their ability to counter United’s dynamic attack.

Emery must now rely on other options or adjust tactics, risking disruption against United, which could jeopardise Villa’s push for a top-five finish.
