Leon Osman has predicted a first-team Everton exit this summer after he noticed against Southampton at Goodison Park.

The Toffees played their final game at their old ground and managed to beat the Saints by a 2-0 scoreline.

Abdoulaye Doucoure appears likely to leave, believes Osman

During Everton’s 2-0 victory over Southampton, Abdoulaye Doucoure was substituted midway through the second half.

As he left the pitch, he waved to all corners of the stadium with both hands, engaging with the applauding fans.

His actions suggested a heartfelt farewell, hinting at a possible departure as his contract nears its end this summer, believes Osman.

Speaking on Premier League Productions’ world feed, the former Everton midfielder said: “Looks a bit of a goodbye. Certainly could be the last time he plays for them [home fans]. He looks emotional.”

Everton should move on from Doucoure

Doucoure’s emotional reaction during his substitution strongly suggests his departure as his contract expires this summer.

The 32-year-old Mali international has been a stalwart with over 150 appearances, but his inconsistent 2024-25 season and high wages raise concerns.

Everton should not offer a new deal, as Doucoure’s potential reluctance to reduce his salary and his age misalign with the club’s need for a youthful, dynamic squad to thrive at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Instead, the Toffees should target younger, more complete attacking midfielders who can provide creativity, energy and longevity, such as players with Premier League experience or emerging talents from top European leagues.

This shift would support David Moyes’ vision for a revitalised Everton, ensuring the midfield drives the team toward sustained competitiveness, European aspirations, and a fresh identity in their new era.
