‘Champ’…Bruno Fernandes sends message to Manchester United loanee after he wins league title

One Manchester United player traded scrapping in 16th place in the Premier League for a winners’ medal in the Eredivisie.

When he looks back at 2024/25, Tyrell Malacia will end up viewing it through a positive lens.

Malacia did not play a single game in 2023/24 due to a complicated knee injury, and did not make his Manchester United bow this season until Ruben Amorim was appointed in late November.

The left-back played eight times under Amorim, four times as a starter, before the head coach elected to go in a different direction.

Amorim signed Patrick Dorgu in the January transfer window, and sent Tyrell Malacia on loan to the Eredivisie.

Tyrell Malacia wins the title

Tyrell Malacia has ended his 2024/25 season on a high with PSV Eindhoven, leaving with a league winners medal.

PSV clinched the title with a 3-1 victory away at Sparta Rotterdam, enough to win the championship over Ajax by a single point.

Malacia posted to Instagram to celebrate his success, winning the Eredivisie for the first time in his career.

Manchester United teammate Bruno Fernandes was the first Red Devils star to reach out and congratulate him. This was unsurprising considering the Portugal star’s leadership.

Fernandes left a simple yet effective message on Malacia’s Instagram page, writing, “Champ,” paying respect to the left-back’s achievement.

Tyrell Malacia had limited role

Tyrell Malacia may have got his winners medal with PSV Eindhoven, but he had a very limited role in their success.

Malacia was an unused substitute in PSV’s title-clinching win at Sparta Rotterdam.

He did play 45 minutes a week earlier, yet made only eight appearances during their run, with only three starts.

Whether PSV saw enough in Malacia to want to buy him permanently is unclear. Yet in comparison to where he was a year ago, the Dutchman has taken a big leap forward.
