Manchester United are out to strengthen their forward options in the summer

With both clubs sitting above the bottom three in the Premier League, the final in Bilbao has taken on added significance as it is the only way both sides can qualify for European football next term. For the Red Devils, Champions League qualification will provide them with a much-needed revenue boost to chase their summer targets while also making Old Trafford a more attractive landing spot for players.

Spurs have beaten United on three occasions this campaign, as they completed a double in the league and knocked the Red Devils out of the Carabao Cup. However, those results are now of little consequence ahead of Wednesday, with everything on the line for both clubs.

Man Utd submit bid for Bryan Mbeumo

Ahead of the game, reports have emerged from Fichajes in Spain that United have submitted an offer close to €65million (£54m) for star forward Bryan Mbeumo. The 25-year-old winger, who has been dubbed a ‘mini Mo Salah’ by former Chelsea player turned talkSPORT pundit Jason Cundy, has a combined 120 goals and assists in 241 games for Brentford. He has netted 69 times while providing 51 assists.

Brentford will be resistant to losing Mbeumo this summer given his contributions since joining in August 2019. However, he has just 12 months left on his contract with the club and the Bees may consider moving him on if they cannot get him to agree a new deal. £54m is a decent fee for a player with just one season on their deal, and it is something that could convince the West London club to sell.

Bryan Mbeumo nominated for Premier League Player of the Season

Mbeumo has been nominated for Premier League Player of the Season alongside the likes of Salah.

"I didn't really expect it," Mbeumo told BBC Sport Africa. "I know I have [had] a good season, but I was surprised when I've seen my name there."

He added: "This club bring me everything. They gave me confidence and I feel very happy to achieve this season here. With the group we have, it is just such a good life here. Players other than me could have deserved a nomination as well. That shows that the club is improving a lot."

Brentford boss Thomas Frank has expressed a desire to keep Mbeumo on board at the club moving forward, he said just over a week ago after a 1-0 win over Ipswich Town: “Bryan is a Brentford player, I love that he is playing here for Brentford. I don’t know any manager who doesn’t want their best players playing on the pitch.”
