Everton said goodbye to Goodison Park on a high, thanks to goals from Iliman Ndiaye securing a 2-0 victory against Southampton.

It was an emotional Sunday on Merseyside, with plenty of supporters showing their love for the Old Lady before making the move to Bramley-Moore Dock this summer.

Although supporters will still get the opportunity to visit Goodison, it was a game that marked the end of an era and picking up all three points topped it off nicely.

In a stadium that means a lot to the people surrounding it, Gary Neville has also shown the memories that exist for those visiting, too.

Goodison Park was never going to be an easy place to leave, given the amount of history at the ground.

MORE TOFFEES STORIES

A stadium as historic as that was also bound to tug on the heartstrings of plenty, including those who have no direct affiliation to the Toffees.

This was highlighted as the Blues played a series of video messages from big names on the final game at Goodison, speaking about their fondness for the stadium.

One of those messages came from Neville, although the reaction of Everton fans inside the stadium was not so complimentary.

Nevertheless, the pundit was keen to share his memories of the Merseyside landmark, admitting there is one thing that he won’t miss.

Speaking on the Sky Sports Premier League YouTube (19 May), Neville said: “I won’t miss clambering up onto that gantry, nearly break my neck every time, banging your head on the steel things that come across.

“But, what a gantry. A gantry that shakes when Everton score, that’s it.”

David Moyes to keep progressing with Everton

Leaving Goodison is not easy for Everton supporters, but the blow will be softened if the Toffees can go to their new stadium and show much improved form consistently.

Everton are finishing the season in a good place.

David Moyes has certainly steadied the ship since his return to Merseyside, and The Friedkin Group will have to show their support over the summer transfer window to bring in the necessary reinforcements.

The Scotsman will continue to keep his standards high and having achieved a 13th place position in the table thanks to the second half of the campaign, the hope will be to push even higher.

There is plenty of work to be done, but supporters in blue finally have a reason to feel optimistic about the future.
