Manchester United lost 3-0 to Chelsea in the FA Women’s Cup final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.
Goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce made the game’s first save in the 19th minute, catching Aggie Beever-Jones’ effort comfortably after Lucy Bronze flicked the ball towards her.
United reacted quickly, with striker Elisabeth Terland whipping the ball into the box. This allowed midfielder Dominique Janssen to aim at goal, but she blazed her effort over the crossbar.
Sandy Baltimore nearly put the London side ahead before the half-hour mark, getting past Janssen before dragging her shot wide.
Baltimore eventually gave the five-time winners the lead from the penalty spot on the stroke of half-time after Celin Bizet brought down Erin Cuthbert in the area.
Head coach Mark Skinner made an early substitution at the start of the second half, replacing Millie Turner with Ella Toone, who was surprisingly left out of the starting line-up.
Terland missed a chance to grab the equaliser just after the restart, heading the ball straight into goalkeeper Hannah Hampton’s gloves.
Baltimore could have doubled the Blues’ lead when Ramirez delivered a precise cross into the area, but could not get enough on the ball to head it home.
United had a penalty call set aside by the VAR when Hampton was deemed to have fouled Terland, but the review showed that the Chelsea goalie got the ball.
Gabby George was forced to make a tackle to stop Aggie Beever-Jones from aiming at goal after Baltimore flicked the ball towards her.
Six minutes before stoppage time, substitute Catarina Macario jumped highest to head Baltimore’s free-kick past Tullis-Joyce.
Baltimore sealed the victory for Chelsea a few minutes later, turning midfielder Lisa Naalsund before lashing the ball into the net.
United have now lost twice in the last three seasons to Chelsea in the final. They also lost to the Blues in the 2022/2023 season before beating Tottenham Hotspur to the title last term.
