Newcastle United showed serious interest in Gabri Veiga before he left Celta Vigo for Al-Ahli in August 2023. The Magpies were reportedly ready to pay €40m for the midfielder, who opted to move to Saudi Arabia.
Newcastle have rekindled their interest in the 22-year-old if a report from Foot Mercato is to be believed. The Spaniard has a contract lasting until 2026 but could leave Al-Ahli and return to Europe in the summer window.
According to the report, Celta Vigo are dreaming about bringing him back to the club, although Veiga’s high salary makes it complicated for them.
The EFL Cup winners and Atlético Madrid are interested parties. Foot Mercato state Los Rojiblancos have asked about him and Eddie Howe’s side have contacted his agent, Pini Zahavi.
Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna covered this report, and he took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to state that Veiga could leave Al-Ahli this summer.
Aouna adds Newcastle, Atlético and Celta are all ‘well informed’ of the conditions needed to sign him. He hasn’t specified these conditions, or the fee needed to convince Al-Ahli to sell Veiga.
