Arne Slot’s Liverpool, after winning the 2024/25 Premier League title with ease, are set to sign Jeremie Frimpong this summer amid the Trent Alexander-Arnold departure news – but the Dutchman, 24, will wear an unusual number on Anfield shores.
Alexander-Arnold’s announcement that he’d be leaving his boyhood club after decades of service, which has received heavy backlash, meant that Slot – regarded as one of the best managers in world football – and his entourage had to eye a new right-back.
It’s been a superb season for the Reds, despite Champions League disappointment, and the club’s higher-ups will be looking to improve on the Dutch tactician’s first season on Merseyside. And snaring Frimpong’s services will certainly do that.
Frimpong’s Unusual Liverpool Number Revealed
Hasn't been worn at Anfield since the 2014/15 campaign
Liverpool, as things stand, have just two outings left of the 2024/25 campaign – travelling to Brighton & Hove Albion’s stomping ground on Monday evening before hosting Crystal Palace on the last day as they bow out as champions.
Regardless, they’re set to strengthen their defensive ranks by adding Frimpong, who is widely regarded as one of the best right-backs in world football, and GIVEMESPORT’s Ben Jacobs has revealed that he’s set to adopt an unusual number.

Exclusive: Inside Jeremie Frimpong's Move to Liverpool
Liverpool have agreed a €35m deal to sign Jeremie Frimpong on a five-year deal, and Ben Jacobs has provided all the inside details of the move.
The well-respected journalist took to X (formerly Twitter) to inform fans that Frimpong – who emerged through Manchester City’s academy before making a name for himself at Celtic – will don the No.30 upon jumping from Germany to England. He wrote:
“Jeremie Frimpong has undertaken part one of his LFC medical. He will complete it on Monday ahead of a €35m move. Also understand Frimpong will wear No.30.”
Frimpong, who has plied his trade for Bayer Leverkusen since the 2020/21 campaign, will become the first Liverpool player in a decade to have that number on the back of his shirt. For those unaware: the forgettable Suso wore it in 2014/15.
Before the Spanish winger, Charles Itandje wore it between 2007/08 and 2008/09 – and he succeeded Daniele Padelli. Others that have worn it include Boudewijn Zenden, Carl Medjani, Djimi Traore, Haukur Ingi Gudnason and Tony Warner.

Amsterdam-born Frimpong has boasted a plethora of numbers during his career. While on Manchester City’s books, he wore 12, 5, 14 and 71 – and the latter was his first number on Celtic’s books before moving to 30. Since moving to Die Werkself, the versatile Dutchman has worn 30.
