Real Madrid secure defender in time for Club World Cup

AFC Bournemouth and Spanish giants Real Madrid have agreed the transfer of Spanish international Dean Huijsen.

AFC Bournemouth signed the then 19-year-old from Juventus for a fee in the region of £12.6 million just under 10 months ago.

In that time he has made 30 appearances in the Premier League, including 25 starts and has featured for 2,320 minutes.

He is now set to join Real Madrid, after the Spanish giants triggered his £50 million release clause.

According to Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol on social media, Chelsea, Newcastle, Arsenal, Liverpool, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Tottenham Hotspur had all been interested in the signing the centre back.

Despite sell-on clauses for both Juventus and Malaga, this will still see the Cherries bank a very healthy profit of in excess of £30 million, doubling the money they had spent less than a year ago.

Reports in the media suggest that Huijsen will be available for AFC Bournemouth for the final two games of the season, against Manchester City and Leicester City respectively, before Huijsen joins Real Madrid in two weeks time.

His move will be made early so that he can be involved in the FIFA Club World Cup, which is being held in the United States of America during June.

The fee received is not enough to set a new club record, which was around £60 million for Dominic Solanke’s sale to Tottenham Hotspur, but it is the second biggest fee received ahead of the £40 million sale of Nathan Ake to Manchester City.

He was always likely to be the first cab off the rank, with Kerkez to Liverpool next.

It’s a superb bit of business/recruitment, but if we lose 3 or 4 of our key players in one summer, this window becomes absolutely pivotal for our near-term direction as a club. Get it right and we can really push for Europe. Get it wrong and sign a few duds, and we could languish in the lower third of the table.

The rich tend to waste money much more easily and quickly than the poor, and we will be comparatively rich this summer. – To join the conversation, please click here.
