Fabrizio Romano: Man United 'strongly interested' in elite striker who could sign if they win…

Man Utd want to add a striker to their squad in the summer transfer window.

Manchester United could alter their summer transfer plans if they win the Europa League this week and earn Champions League qualification. United are 16th in the English top-flight after their 1-0 defeat to Chelsea on Friday night, while Tottenham Hotspur are 17th after they lost to Aston Villa.

The two sides are certain to record abysmal domestic seasons and narrowly avoid relegation, though one of them will play in the Champions League next season. It would not be enough to salvage United's poor campaign, but it would hand Ruben Amorim a big boost for the summer window.

It is estimated Champions League qualification will earn either club roughly £100 million, while it will also make them a more attractive prospect to any potential signing. In the case of United, it could help them land a striker who they otherwise have little chance to sign this summer.

United 'strongly interested' in Gyokeres deal

Manchester United identified Liam Delap as their preferred summer transfer target, though they also have an interest in Sporting star Viktor Gyokeres. The Swedish striker has netted 53 goals in 51 appearances for the Portuguese champions this season and scored once as they sealed the league title with a 2-0 victory over Vitória Guimarães SC.

The 26-year-old is expected to leave Sporting this summer as he aims to test himself at a higher level and a potential reunion with Ruben Amorim has not been ruled out. A move to Old Trafford still feel unlikely though and is certain to hinge on whether they manage to qualify for the Champions League.

Gyokeres will be inundated with offers in the coming months and only wants to play at the highest level, while United would only be able to fund a £54.7 million move if they earn a huge financial windfall. Both of those factors will rely on Europa League victory over Spurs on Wednesday night. That information was relayed by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, who believes a Premier League move is 'most likely' to happen this summer.

“Now, they won together (the league) once again, and Sporting will accept the conditions for Viktor Gyokeres’ exit, 65 million Euros package," he said on his YouTube channel. "So, keep an eye on this one in the next days, in the next weeks, because Gyokeres will leave. My information is that the Premier League remains the most likely outcome for sure. Arsenal and Man United (are) amongst the clubs strongly interested in Viktor Gyokeres.”
