“Let’s see what happens” – Player asked about future amidst Newcastle United talk

Over the past few weeks, Newcastle United have been linked with a move for Lazio midfielder Matteo Guendouzi.

Reports have stated the Frenchman could become a target for the Magpies in the event of Sandro Tonali’s exit from St James’ Park, or even as an additional squad member.

Guendouzi played in Lazio’s dramatic 2-2 draw against Inter Milan yesterday and after the game he was asked about his future, given the links to Newcastle United.

The ex-Arsenal player made it clear that everything can depend on where Lazio finish in the Serie A.

He told LaLazioSiamoNoi: “Next year? I’m really happy to play for Lazio, we’ll see at the end of the last match what will happen. We hope to qualify for the Champions League or Europa League of course, then we’ll see.”

When asked about whether he is happy in Rome or not, Guendouzi said: “But I’m certainly happy and I’ll always give my all. Let’s see what happens, it depends on many things. The best Guendouzi? I can do much more. I’m only twenty-six, I’m satisfied with my season but I can always do more. There’s time to grow, I hope we’ll see the best version in the coming years.”

The 26-year-old has done well since his arrival at Lazio and has managed to fill the big shoes of Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

This season, he has played 36 times in Serie A and has a goal and three assists. He has also improved from a disciplinary sense and that is key, considering the doubts that surrounded him after his Arsenal spell ended.
