Wayne Rooney shares his favourite Goodison Park memory as an Everton fan and player
Wayne Rooney, speaking to BBC 5 Live, has revealed that his favourite Goodison Park memory as an Everton fan was a 3-2 win against Wimbledon in 1994, which sealed Premier League safety.
“As a fan, there wasn’t too many great moment,” Rooney joked. “The one which stands out is when Barry Horne scored against Wimbledon and we stayed up on the last game of the season.
“And obviously being on the pitch after the game and that’s something which sticks with me still.”

Rooney then shared his best moment as a player: “I obviously played a lot of games at Goodison Park and I have to say my first Premier League goal is my favourite moment of mine at Goodison Park.”
Indeed, Rooney’s goal against Arsenal in 2002, when he was just 16-years-old, remains one of the most iconic moments in Premier League history.
Rooney addressed his relationship with Everton fans yesterday
Rooney took the microphone on the pitch at Goodison Park yesterday and was initially met with the chant, “Oh Manchester, is full of s—.”
The former Manchester United forward laughed it off and then fired back with a smile on his face, saying: “I am a f—— scouser, by the way!
“I just wanted to say from my point of view, Everton is the club I grew up as a young boy loving and I still love the football club.
“I know we’ve had ups and downs and I know I went and played for Manchester United, but the memories I have with this football club will last a lifetime.
“It’s very emotional being here today and hopefully the new ground can bring the history Goodison Park has. I’m looking forward to it.”
Returning to Everton in 2017 has certainly helped to rebuild his relationship with Everton supporters.
