Liverpool are reportedly in talks with Bournemouth over a deal for Milos Kerkez. Arne Slot has made it no secret in recent weeks that he wants to strengthen his Premier League title-winning squad this summer, and the Dutchman’s transfer plea has not gone unnoticed at Anfield.
The former Feyenoord boss led the Reds to Premier League glory with several games to spare, and he is set to be rewarded this summer with several marquee acquisitions.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have contacted Bournemouth to discuss a move for defender Kerkez, and those talks are ‘advancing’. The Reds are already working to agree personal terms with the left-back in the hope of striking a deal as soon as possible.
Kerkez is said to be keen to join Slot’s side, and a transfer fee is now at the heart of discussions. Bournemouth had been looking for £45million. The Hungarian international has enjoyed a stellar season with the Cherries, showcasing his ability to be a frightening attacking threat but equally as capable defensively.
The 21-year-old has been linked with a host of Premier League outfits as a result, including both Manchester clubs, but Liverpool look to have stolen a march on their rivals by already initiating talks with Andoni Iraoli’s side.
The Reds have kickstarted their spending spree early elsewhere as well, with Jeremie Frimpong set to arrive from Bayer Leverkusen on a five-year deal. Liverpool have activated the £29.5m release clause in the Netherlands international’s contract, with the right-back set to replace the departing Trent Alexander-Arnold who is expected to join Real Madrid.
The arrival of Kerkez is likely to see Andrew Robertson dropped into a rotational role next season, though the Scotland international’s leadership and experience cannot be understated behind the scenes. Thus, Kostas Tsimikas is set to be moved on, with Leeds United already being linked with the Greek international.
The 29-year-old won’t be the only player to head out of the Anfield exit over the coming months though. Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota have both been linked with Saudi Pro League moves, whilst Luis Diaz is still attracting interest from Barcelona amid uncertainty over whether he will be handed a new contract by Liverpool.
Harvey Elliott is also expected to be eyed by several top clubs around Europe after struggling for minutes under Slot.
