Wayne Rooney was one of many Everton figures, past and present, to say goodbye to Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon.
David Moyes’ men went out on a high, beating Southampton 2-0 thanks to goals from Iliman Ndiaye, ahead of their move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Events off the pitch were just as important as the game on the field, with the rich history of Everton being honoured surrounding the 90 minutes.
The contributions of some got a mixed reaction from Everton fans, with Rooney even facing some humourous chants from the home faithful.

Rooney sends Everton message after Goodison exit
The final send-off to Goodison Park was some occasion for those in Blue, with supporters arriving early for the lunchtime kick-off to soak up the atmosphere.
MORE TOFFEES STORIES
Even supporters who were unable to get tickets into the game gathered outside and relished hearing Z Cars, which has become synonymous with Everton.
Ndiaye has had a solid season with the Toffees, being a rare shining light at times, and he is someone who is expected to exceed those levels next term.
After the game, though, supporters were given the opportunity to celebrate some players from the past who made a difference to life at Goodison for so long.
One of those was Rooney, who took to the field after the game, bringing some of his family out with him.
Taking to X on 19 May, the 39-year-old sent a message which read: “Special day with my boys at Goodison Park.”
Everton to eager to create more history
The final day at Goodison certainly highlighted just how much history there is on Merseyside, and Ndiaye has already put his name in the history books by scoring the final goals on home turf.

Ndiaye was the difference for Everton.
Moyes is also someone who has solidified his status at Everton, and therefore, supporters will be excited that it is the Scotsman who is leading the Toffees to Bramley-Moore Dock.
There is a long road ahead and plenty of work to be done under the ownership of The Friedkin Group before anyone can get too carried away.
However, the future certainly looks far more optimistic for the Toffees and if the right moves can be made over the summer transfer window and put some good foundations into place, who knows what new history could be made?
