Manchester United’s Antony has impressed since joining Real Betis on loan in the winter market.
The winger has managed eight goals and five assists from 34 games and played a key role in helping Real Betis make it to the Conference League final, where they’ll face Chelsea.
As things stand, the 25-year-old has to return to Manchester United at the end of this season.
Real Betis are determined to extend his stay, and this has already been confirmed by their president, Ángel Haro, earlier this month.
At the weekend, the La Liga side’s sporting director, Manu Fajardo, spoke to DAZN about Antony. Estadio Deportivo, who relayed his comments, state formal talks have started with Manchester United to extend the attacker’s stay beyond this season.
Fajardo claims there’s been regular contact with the Red Devils since the former Ajax man joined his side on loan.
“Yes, yes, there already have been. There is a close and respectful relationship with Manchester United, and we are in constant contact with them,” he said.
“We have been talking with them since his arrival. We have to take great care of this asset, so that big clubs and players of this calibre continue to trust us.”
Fajardo insists his club will do everything they can to try and secure a new deal with Manchester United for Antony.
“We will give everything so that players like Antony can join our club,” Fajardo explained.
Ruben Amorim mainly used the Brazilian as a wing-back instead of his preferred position as a winger. That situation is unlikely to change next season and Manchester United could offload Antony in the summer window.
