Everton bid farewell to Goodison Park in an emotional send-off as they prepare to move to their new home, Bramley-Moore Dock.

Their final home game ended in a 2-0 win over Southampton, with Iliman Ndiaye bagging both goals.

In truth, it could have been more if Beto had managed to keep himself onside for two disallowed goals.

And as Jeff Stelling and Ally McCoist discussed the Goodison farewell, the two were in fits of laughter.

In truth, Everton could not have asked for an easier opponent for their last game at their famous home.

MORE TOFFEES STORIES

The Toffees would have been desperate to wave goodbye to Goodison on a high and faced the division’s bottom side.

Southampton have been in wretched form this season and have just 12 points to their name, with two wins all campaign.

However, one of those wins came over the Merseyside club in early November when Sean Dyche was still in charge.

1 February 2025 Ipswich Town 1-2 Southampton

Southampton’s only two wins in the Premier League this season

The Saints, though, were not able to replicate that result and went down without a whimper at Goodison.

McCoist was lucky enough to be at the game, and he and Stelling could not control their laughter while live on talkSPORT (19 May, 6:10am)

The Scot said: “It was a brilliant day, don’t get me wrong, Southampton were…”

Stelling interrupted: “They were the perfect party guests, weren’t they?”

McCoist laughed loudly at that point and replied: “They certainly were. I mean, if you were having a party… they would be first on the invitation list, they really were.

“They played their part superbly well, let’s just say that.”

Everton can build success at Bramley-Moore Dock

Now Everton have exited Goodison on a high, they can build a successful new chapter at Bramley-Moore Dock.

The Toffees have not won a trophy since they lifted the FA Cup in the 1994/95 season and will be desperate to change that.

It seemed fitting that David Moyes should be the man to lead the Merseyside outfit to their new home, given his connection with the North West club.

Significant work must be done to make Everton a real threat again, but they do have potential.

Ndiaye showcased just what he is capable of in front of goal, and the Toffees must build a team around him.

Elsewhere, James Garner and Jarrad Branthwaite are two exciting talents that Moyes must try and keep hold of.

With Everton riding the wave of emotion into their new home, why not target domestic cup success next season?
