Crystal Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson said he was hopeful his penalty-saving heroics at Wembley on Sunday will have impressed watching England manager Thomas Tuchel.
The German was in the crowd to see Eberechi Eze’s 16th-minute goal prove enough to take the Eagles to a historic first FA Cup triumph.
And 28-year-old Henderson played a big part in the victory, the most vital of his saves coming in the 36th minute when he pushed aside an Omar Marmoush penalty moments after a scare which saw the Palace keeper handle outside his area to deny Erling Haaland.
Asked about his prospects of winning a third England cap, Henderson said the national team was “an aim” for him and added: “I’ve had my first taste of it and I want to get my next taste of it.
“That’s something I’ve been working towards for many years now and, fingers crossed, I can get the opportunity soon.”
Speaking after the match on Sunday, Henderson said: “I know what I’m capable of and, getting exposed to this stage, I knew today would be a phenomenal day. Even sat in bed this morning I was thinking about things, manifesting things. It’s phenomenal to be able to perform like that.”
Former youth international Henderson was capped for the seniors in a friendly against the Republic of Ireland in November 2020 and won his second cap in October’s 3-1 win in Finland in the UEFA Nations League.
