West Ham returned to their woeful ways against Nottingham Forest on Sunday, with a 2-1 defeat another day to forget.

Jarrod Bowen’s goal proved to be only a consolation, as the Hammers crashed out in their final game at the London Stadium this season.

Graham Potter has one more game to get through before attention can turn to the summer transfer window, with plenty of work to be done.

Several players are set to leave the London Stadium at the end of the campaign, with Sunday a final goodbye at home after victory at Manchester United last time out.

However, Alphonse Areola was the preferred choice between the sticks, while Lukasz Fabianski had to settle for life on the bench.

Fabianski hits out at Potter

Understandably, Potter named an unchanged side for the game against Nottingham Forest, having beaten Manchester United 2-0 the week prior.

However, given how much Fabianski has given to West Ham over his time in East London, it was sad that the 40-year-old didn’t get the chance to say goodbye on home turf.

Furthermore, despite the Irons losing the game, Potter chose not to make a substitution in the goalkeeping position, keeping his head firmly in the game instead.

However, Fabianski has fired a dig at Potter for his complete omission from the game as he told Viaplay Sport Poland (18 May): “I feel disappointed with how it looked today.

“I secretly hoped that I would be able to say goodbye to the fans at the home match by being on the pitch or for at least a moment.”

Fabianski could say final goodbye for West Ham

Although Areola has been the preferred option between the sticks this season, it’s not as though Fabianski hasn’t made any appearances, with 13 league games under his belt.

Areola was chosen over Fabianski against Nottingham Forest.

You can understand his upset not to have been given the chance to play at the London Stadium one final time, especially given the Hammers have nothing left to play for this season.

However, it seems as though Potter has his mind focused fully on footballing matters rather than taking any time to be sentimental just yet.

With the final game of the season against Ipswich Town, the decision to make a change could be made to put to rest any of the goalkeeper’s grievances with the current situation.
