Sky Sports: Liverpool eyeing move to sign 'one of Europe's most talented defenders' instead of…

Liverpool have identified Ajax defender Jorrel Hato as an alternative to their primary target at left-back Milos Kerkez, Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg has revealed.

The Reds could reportedly make a move for the Dutch international if a deal for Kerkez falls through this summer, as they anticipate a busy start to the transfer window.

The Premier League champions are now in talks to make Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong their first arrival and could end up welcoming two new full-backs, with Kerkez also targeted.

Liverpool are believed to be determined to get a deal for the Hungary international over the line and are now in direct contact with Bournemouth over a summer move.

Plettenberg, writing on X, has revealed that Liverpool are considering Hato as an alternative to Kerkez, who remains their primary target at left-back:

Hato, praised as ‘one of the most talented teenage centre-backs in Europe’, made his first-team debut for Ajax aged just 16 two seasons ago and has been an important part of their defence ever since.

The 19-year-old already has 111 senior appearances to his name, as well as six caps for the Netherlands, and is considered one of the most promising players in his position in world football.

Hato would offer slightly more versatility than Kerkez, as he can play both at left-back and in central defence, although he has only covered on the left for Ajax this season.

The Dutch talent is believed to be on the radar of several Premier League clubs ahead of the market reopening, with Chelsea also understood to have placed him on their transfer shortlist.
